About
Thank you for your interest in Early Learners. I am Holly Hansel Kamm, the Executive Director of our company. I wanted to convey a personal message about our center and our history. In the early 1970’s I was the mother of a 6 month old little girl. There was no such a thing as a child care center here– or basically anywhere else in the area at that time. My daughter was with a babysitter, and she spent most of her time in a playpen in a darkened room with a number of other children. And, yes, I was definitely not going to let that go on any longer!! So I quit my minimum wage job and became in in-home child care provider (then just called a babysitter).
This was the beginning of change for women and families as more and more opportunities were opening up for us. Child care centers were starting to pop up in larger cities At the same time I had realized that children needed more than ‘babysitting’ and my goal was to create the first licensed child care center in the tri-states. I envisioned a safe, homelike, and yet challenging and stimulating environment for children which would be constant and consistent. This would need to be a place that was accessible for parents and responsive to their concerns – a place where parents and teacher/caregivers would share in loving and protecting young children while fostering in them a love of learning, trust in themselves and others, and a zest for creative living which would last throughout their lives.
In August of 1972, Pooh’s Corner, the first official center in the tri-states, became a reality. It was the first of the three centers we would open over the next several years. It was followed by Piglet’s Place on Windsor Ave, and Tigger’s Den on Duggan Dr. Pooh’s Corner split from our company in the early 1980’s and we renamed our remaining two centers as Early Learners Child Development Centers. Sadly, the pandemic caused us to close the former Piglet’s Place. So we consolidated our staff and families at the current Early Learners and continue our mission 50 plus years later.
Early Learners, is not just a child care center and preschool, but concentrates on each stage of our childrens’ healthy development. We are a full service child care center as well as a preschool and so much more as you will find as your read about all of the programs we offer.
Again, thanks for checking us out. We hope to hear from you!
